If you’re looking for a cricket alternative, these Red Runner Roaches are a great choice. They’re packed with protein and offer more nutrition per gram than crickets. Plus, they’re tough and unlike crickets, they don’t die off easily. With less chitin, they’re easier for your reptiles to digest, and their quick movements make feeding time fun as they dart around. The best part? They can’t climb smooth surfaces, so they’re easy to manage. These little guys breed like crazy, live up to 24 months, and require very little upkeep. Reptiles can’t get enough of them, and if you dust them, they’ll slow down, making it easier for your pets to catch them. / (Common Names) Red Runner Roaches, Rusty Red Roaches, Turkestan Roaches, and Turkish Roaches / (Scientific Name) Blatta Lateralis, "Shelfordella lateralis / (Count) 500ct / (Sizes) 1/2" Inch / (Sex) M & F / (Housing & Enclosure) Red Runner Roaches should be housed in a smaller enclosure. They seem to breed best when kept slightly crowded & also keeps them in close proximity with their food and water. I use egg cartons for media; however using a substrate can be beneficial as well. I like to keep the back half of the tank on the heat mat. I will mist the tank or dump water into the back half were it will naturally evaporate andprovide humidity. / (Temperature) Red Runner Roaches are fine at room temperature, but will grow and breed much faster if kept warmer, up to 95F. You can use a heat pad or heat lamp in order to provide them with warmth. / (Humidity) We recommend keeping roaches at 50%+ humidity if at all possible. Red Runners will survive at lower room humidity, but will thrive in the 60-70% humidity range. / (Feeding) Keep a small food and water bowl in their home. We recommend using any dry roach feed along with adding in some fresh fruit and vegetables, such as Bananas (whole), Carrots, Lettuce, Oak leaves, Oatmeal, Orange slices, Pearl barley, Potato, Peaches, Plums & should be offered a few times a week. / (Customer Support) We’re here to help if any issues arise with your order.
