The Miocene Leatherback Turtle, or Dermochelys coriacea, is renowned for its unique, leathery shell, unlike other turtles. It's the largest sea turtle species and highly migratory, traversing both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. This turtle possesses a secondary palate and lacks a visible shell, with bones buried in its dark brown or black skin, featuring seven prominent ridges on its back and five underneath. They nest on tropical beaches, with hatchlings emerging black with white-margined flippers and distinctive white striping.
