IMPORTANT NOTICE: Golf cart starter/generators are very commonly misdiagnosed. There are several components on each golf cart that must be functioning properly in order for your starter/generator to perform. We strongly recommend that you have your starter/generator diagnosed by a local professional repair shop. There are two very common issues users experience with these units. The first?and most common? is if the unit is wired incorrectly. These units are bi-directional (they will work both clockwise and counterclockwise). However, if they are not wired correctly (mismatched wiring) the unit will spin, but not charge. It will seem as though the unit is properly operating; however it will only function for a temporary amount of time. At some point the unit will overheat and blow the armature and brushes. This is not due to a faulty unit, but rather incorrect wiring. The second common failure is the external voltage regulator. When the regulator fails, the starter/generator will overcharge and burn.
